A bit of a whirlwind week. Darling's off to Houghton again and next week to Big Rapids or some other. So I'm a bit late posting these. We had a wonderful Easter. E. Bunny left a note and some baskets and eggs inside the house, then over to P&L's new place for some beautiful weather, outdoor fun, good friends, and wonderful food. 2 kids fell asleep in the car. 1 kid had 2 costume changes because the Easter outfit her mama knit her was a scootch oversized. And 1 kid decided to make this the weekend for UNDIES. So far, hasn't looked back. Good stuff.

A kitchen in two parts
We finally wrapped up the kitchen and scullery last weekend. (Mostly) Here they are, with some explanations.
The scullery:
Houses our dishwasher, a canning stove, most of our baking supplies, our dishes, small appliances, and a pantry. I have a thing for vintage kitchen canisters. Apparently. I saw the black chalkboard wall in Martha Stewart ages ago and always wanted one.
The doors to the upper cabinets didn't make the spray painting session this winter, so they'll be done sometime this summer. For now, it's working as is, but I could see it getting too dusty.
What you don't see? The pass through to the dining room - hidden from view because it has been clogged with tools. Also, still working on a curtain for the pantry and the window.
The kitchen:
Houses everything else! Our food, pots, pans, cookware, etc. This confuses everyone that has come over and helped with cooking and cleaning up, but so far it is working for us. We do love the fact that we can hide the dish fuss in the scullery and still hang out at the bar or in the living room without dirty dishes everywhere.
Stove is from Mum and Dad's basement. Cabinets were styled on the Adel, but built by a local cabinetmaker. Countertops are Corian (Formica in the scullery). The white countertop was a debate (in which Darling relented and I perservered) but I think they're going well. We do have to keep them clean otherwise they really look dingy, but overall I think that's a good thing. We plan to do a white subway tile backsplash with a mosaic glass tile accent (much like the one we built for the other house) in both the kitchen and scullery, but that's down the road.
What you don't see? A range hood. It's coming. It's a pain in the neck, but it's coming.
Next up? The mudroom - and here's a little white underbelly. Sometimes you have to see the before to appreciate the after, eh?

The sink cabinet is from the original cabin, repainted along with the other metal cabinets, which we got from the ReStore. Unfortunately, the stamped enamel dual-drainboard sink had the drain rusted out. We very grudgingly got a new drainboard sink to replace it. Big bummer.

It's back
After all that warm spring weather? A bit of a snow storm. Oliver said, "Look, it's winter time!" Again.

Sprung
It's been a whole two weeks since we last posted! Spring has arrived in its tickle-slap manner, UP style. Snow, sun, sap, mud, freezing, thawing, sandhills and peepers - we're giving those Wellies a run for their money. Here's how we've been spending this inbetweener season:
How have you been spending mud season?
Toboggan Running
Soaking up the Sun
Out and About
T-shirted and Panda Capped
Uncovering Construction-Buried Huckleberries
Sugaring. "Siryup" as O says (no, not urine sampling)
Watching Our Swimming Hole Fill Up
Seeking Peepers
How have you been spending mud season?
