A Running Tally

I'm feeling very bookish lately. I mean, I usually like books, but lately with all the travel and audiobooks and sickies and reading with cats on couches, I'm just feeling very booky. Blogspot doesn't really let you have pages or links or anything like some other blog hosts do. So I'm creating this post to serve as a list holder (did I mention I like lists?) for our favorite favorite books. We're book people, you're book people, it's like my little book journal Books to Check Out, but digital! How fun! (Well, for me at least. Perhaps not very interesting for you, the family, friend, reader. I guess I realize this.) I intend to keep it updated. We'll just see how that goes.

  1. Oooh, nice. Have you read any Rex Stout? He writes about Nero Wolfe, a genuis detective who solves cases without ever leaving his house. His assistant, Archie, does all of the leg work. Set around 1930s NYC. Good to read aloud.

On deck for me: All the Little Living Things by Wallace Stegner (reminds me somewhat of Ken Kesey's Sometimes a Great Notion)
The Engineer of Human Souls by Josef Skvorecky
    and
    The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen.

  3. Nice! I'll have to try All the Little Living Things because I super enjoyed Sometimes a Great Notion! Haven't read Rex Stout but I think you can see I do like my tame detective novels.

I read quite a bit during Oliver's first year - between nursing and being a book chain letter participant... I had some fun reads I'll have to list out! Oh yeah, and I nabbed your copy of Breakfast of Champions during the holidays. The ransom is one summer visit.

  4. Barbara Kingsolver - The Lacuna. It's taking me awhile - not much time to read these days unfortunately!

  5. I've seen that one, but haven't bit yet. I'm interested to see what you think! I've read a bit of BK lately, but haven't read her fiction in ages.

  6. I haven't been on your blog in awhile. I am very impressed! When do you do all this stuff (work, mom, knit, read, plan a house, etc.)?

I couldn't get into Eat, Love Pray, but I am reading the Time Traveler's Wife right now. It is okay.....a nice easy book where I don't have to think. Aaron is trying to get me to read, Animal, Vegetable and Miracle. He really enjoyed it.

We're still coming into town on Wed. I'm on break and my brother will be with us. Dinner at the Fuess household. I'm making chocolate truffle cheesecake.

    Hope to see you then.
