Week 2

Cabin is down, site is cleared, basement excavated. Mason scheduled for Wednesday, Jordan (plumber) and Brian work on foundation plumbing this weekend. All exterior doors and windows purchased (yikes). Some issues with the well, but moving forward we'll see how it goes!

And so it begins

July 19, 2010 - we begin construction! So exciting and terrifying at once. Some last minute salvage and demo from Darling and Pop Kudej (known as Grampa around here) this weekend and the cabin was ready to come down. Jeepers.

Christmas in July

This Christmas present wasn't done in time. Wasn't even done in time for birthday giving. But now, now that it's July, it's done. And, depending on the air, there may still be summer evenings when a wool sweater would be desireable. Though not this week. At any rate, it's sure to have a rough and tumble autumn.
This is my first attempt at an adult sweater. And I didn't pick the ideal pattern. This is the "High-Top Hoodie" from Son of Stitch n Bitch. The book itself focuses a bit more on being cool and hip than it does on being knitty and thorough, which was kind of irritating. This pattern, though sporty, had some quirks that a veteran sweater knitter might have handled better. (My comments and notes are on Ravelry.) Still, in all its not-perfect glory, he likes it! and it fits! Which is really the point.

Merry Christmas, Darling!

All Points Bulletin

Attention: thrifters, scavengers, rummage sale-ers!
Photo from Modern Kiddo
Two weeks (more?) ago I got Oliver this (circa 1960s) Fisher Price Airport at a yard sale for... $1! We never had one growing up, but certainly spent some time with the one in the Ethan Allen play room. Since then I've been scouring eBay etc. for accessories of the same vintage:
I found the Family Car. And then scored on the tram/luggage car/fuel car set (with 2 suitcases!). The rest? They are in abundance on eBay it turns out. And even Etsy. But holy wah, I can't see spending $30+ on all of the other parts. Seems to squash the wild excitement of my $1 find, you see. So I'm seeking assistance! If you see any of these Little People et al in your comings and goings and thrift stores and yard sales, please pick 'em up! Cheap is key here. Perhaps O's final airport will be a collection of odds and ends from around the country. Fun fun! I'll post in the comments if/when I score some other accessories. And Thanks of course!

Happy Weekending

A very full weekend: heat, river, blueberries, Airstream, sand, fog, cabins, friends, rain, knitting, swimming, jumping, rowing, lakes, and All-American fun. Exhausting and relaxing in the best way.

Fresh

I know that it's summer and today, in fact, it actually feels like it. Unlike the lovely autumn weather I've been surveying in this week. But summer aside, growth is sometimes a little slower in the great North, so we've been enjoying spring deliciousness along with our first summer crops and a bounty from our CSA box:

First garden harvest: Radishes! We like 'em roasted!

Fresh strawberries! (both from our yard and our box!)
And I just found this strawberry recipe over at Foothill Home Companion

Beautiful rhubarb crisp! No photos - eaten too quickly...

Hope you're all enjoying the farmer's markets and good weather. What's tickling your taste buds of late?
